Descriptions and Definitions

Swedish/Relaxation Massage:  Long broad strokes apply light to moderate pressure that promotes circulation, detoxification, and flexibility, and allows your body to access its own healing powers.

Deep Tissue:  Moderate to deep pressure and special techniques are applied to access the deeper muscle layers and allow for specific work around joints.

Myofascial Release: A deep tissue massage technique that softens and stretches the fascia, which is the layer of connective tissue below the skin that covers underlying tissues and separates different layers of tissue. Fascia surrounds muscles, groups of muscles, blood vessels, bones and nerves.

Trigger Point Therapy: Trigger points are microscopic points of chronically contracted muscle fibers that develop due to injury or overwork. During trigger point therapy, you and your therapist work together to identify the exact location of your trigger points, then the therapist applies massage techniques to help deactivate them. You should also learn techniques to massage your own trigger points.

Pregnancy Massage: Positioning and techniques that is safe and focused upon the needs specific to pregnancy and postpartum.

Fertility Massage: A combination of massage, bodywork, and energy techniques that soften abdominal adhesions, promotes circulation, and balances hormones in such a way that creates an environment optimal for fertility.

Reiki:  An energy technique that facilitates profound relaxation which can assist the body in its natural healing process.
